You ever drive a vehicle with all wheel drive? If no, you owe it to yourself to drive one. Wow. Big difference in the way it puts traction to the ground. I recently drove the Ford Edge for a week, in everything from rain to ice, to snow… and this sucker just wouldn’t slide. It had grip on top of grip. Forget 4WD, AWD is where it’s at, kids.
I used to think Ford sucked balls, because well… they did. They got their shit together though, no question. That whole “Just Drive One” phrase is true, as much as I hate to admit it. The Edge came with Sirius sat. radio which was cool as hell, leather all around, heated seats, glass panoramic roof so it was major sunroof land… yeah, it was cool.

Will I buy a Ford? Prob not… but I’d consider it, they’re worthy of checking out if you’re into this look.

Hellz yeah,
I have a Subaru Impreza Outback Sport.
It is sweet as hell in the snow and decent on ice. My last car had 4wd and AWD definitely has it all over anything else.
Plus my car has a boxer engine, which translates to more power for less cylinders.

thats odd, cause ive driven awd before and theyre as sloppy as hell, and i never felt safe in the snow or ice with it, ever. now i drive a jeep tj 4×4, and ill never drive anything else, when it comes to 4×4/awd stuff. i swear by it, people say they feel tippy and all, and yes cause of the short wheel base they are a different ride for sure…but as with any vehicle, you drive it like an ass clown, youll tip it…i know i can tip anything, as easily as i can my jeep, if i drive it around a corner doin mach 10. anyways, never had a prob with my jeep tj, safest thing ive driven on ice or snow in 4×4. if youre going to get into 4 wheel anything…make it a true 4×4, not that awd crap…much safer, imho.

I don’t know man… the science behind 4×4 versus AWD paints AWD to be safer. Insurance companies give you a lower rate if you have AWD instead of 4X4 and the crash studies have shown AWD to be much safer as well. On the other hand, AWD are usually more expensive gas wise and they don’t have the raw power of 4X4 when off road
with 4X4, all 4 wheels are getting energy all of the time, regardless of if they have traction or not, where as with AWD, only the wheels with traction get the energy so it’s next to impossible to spin out. I had the Edge AWD on ice and from a dead stop, I floored it… trying to get it to spin or lose traction. it took off like a bat out of hell. B’s Dad was with me in the truck at the time, he drives a 4X4 all the time and he was blown away by the traction and handling.
I guess it comes down to preference, but if given the exact same vehicle with choice of AWD or 4X4, I’d take AWD. When conditions are wet or on pavement, AWD is far superior as studies have shown. I just wish it was cheaper is all!
