When was the last time you had a conversation with someone, where they were checking their cell phone txt messages at the same time you were talking? Even worse, they were responding to a txt while you’re talking to them. Has this ever happened to you? Are you that person that does this to others?

I was getting inked the other day (it’s going great btw, thanks) and I had my cell in my hand. The artist is talking away when my phone vibrates because I had a msg from Bryci. Without thinking… I raise the phone up and start to read, all the while listening to him talk to me, as he inks my right arm.

What in the fuck is wrong with me?

I caught my error quickly, lowered my phone, apologized to him for being rude.

I think we’re in a world where people are very oblivious to those around them. ME ME ME seems to be the theme in most people’s minds. Not sure why that is, we went from being sort of polite to being downright rude and nobody seems to have noticed. Odd.

Myself, I like someone’s attention when I am talking to them, as I give mine when they are talking to me. Well, aside from that moment in the tattoo shop that is. When B starts to talk to me, when we’re in our office, I generally shift my chair to the side away from my screen so I can look at her as she talks to me.

Here’s the thing people… your txt will wait. That’s the point of a txt message and not a phone call. You get it and get back to it when you can. If the person was in HOLYSHITMUSTTALKNOW mode… they’d have phoned you. Captain Obvious says hello.

What won’t wait though, is that awesome impression you’re leaving on the other person by letting them know, to their face no less, that you think your txt is more important than them.

Don’t be that person, seriously. The world has enough ass clowns already, don’t be another. Just sayin…
