Mac Mini Upgrade

We have a Apple Mac Mini that we use in the living room. It runs the Samsung Plasma tv more or less in regards to, when we download a movie online… this is how/where we play it. It’s a pretty quick little computer all things said and done, it’s small, but looks can be deceiving. Geekbench wise, I can get 2756 with this. How does that compare against what you’re using now?

This sort of gives you an idea of how small it is if you’ve never seen one. They’re freakin’ tiny. The one we have is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0Ghz with 4 gigs of ram. It came with a smaller hard drive, so I just today upgraded it to a brand new Seagate 500GB Momentus 7200.4 SATA w/ 16MB Cache. For those that aren’t tech/geek savvy… this is pretty much the top notebook hard drive you can buy before you go to solid state… which wouldn’t have been cost effective.

I’ve installed OS-X Leopard (10.6.1) on it and of course, Bootcamp to run Windows 7 Ultimate. I’ll probably leave it in Windows 7 mode 99% of the time, using Nod32 for security (best virus protection in the world, bar none). I am going with XBMC, because well, it’s the best out there for Media Centers when modding.

So with this thing up and running, using Windows 7 new feature ‚Äòhomegroup’, I can shuffle movies from my Mac Pro to the Mini in seconds, to watch them there, or just download them wirelessly from the Mini itself. 500 gig HD just for movies… yup, this will be fun.

Geeky, but hey, somebody’s gotta do it.
