Expectations
So we’ve had the Bowflex now for a little over 2 months. I think… maybe it’s been longer? I could check my blog to confirm, but meh.. 2 months area sounds close enough.
Has my body changed? YES. I have gained muscle, I have gained tone. Am I happier? Fuck yes. Am I as cut as I expected myself to be? Fuck no. I was pushing myself, but perhaps not hard enough. I think I’ve been over eating to be honest.
I did some more research and I read some of this book by a Doc named Ellington Darden and he has run tests on subjects over a six week period, where he found the ideal calorie intake for a male wanting to tone as well as build muscle, is 1900 calories.
Let me say that again, 1900 calories.
My shakes are 1100 calories EACH and I have between 2 and 3 a day depending on if it’s an on day or off day workout wise, and that doesn’t count my pre shake that is 390 calories, or my food intake for the day, or anything else. In short, I am consuming 3500-4000 calories.

So now, today, right now in fact… I start a new six week workout plan. This plan was set in motion by Dr Darden, and it works on the people that have followed it.
Going from 3500-4000 calories to 1900 calories will be tough at first, I’ll probably be hungry a lot. I can fool my body though by drinking more water. A lot more water. Hydration is an essential part of weight loss and muscle building.
ok, pep talk over. I worked out about 30 minutes ago, just had a new shake.. 390 calories versus 1100 calories. 55g of protein though, so that’s good. I need 175-250 g of protein per day, so I’m off to a good start.
Shower time.
