So last week I was telling you how I’d gained ten pounds in AZ. Technically 9.6 pounds, but meh, round it to 10 right? So where we at? Well, 5 days ago… 10 pounds heavier. I was at 189.6. I weighed myself today, a few times for the average.. 182.4

So 5 days, a loss of 7.2, let’s say 7 pounds.

7 pounds of weight loss in 5 days.

How did I do it? Well, 15 in 21 has been my staple but I haven’t been religious on it. I have been staying clear of shit food *mostly* (went to movies today, had coke etc).

Drinking water and sleeping normal has been a big part of it. Most of it though, I am pretty damn sure… water weight. I don’t think I was almost 190 of solid mass and then boom, 5 days later I am down 7 pounds.

It had to be water weight from traveling, up/down etc in elevation, different foods, who knows, stress maybe?

I’m feeling better about myself at least. Now I haz big boy pants I can wear.

The Nucks are top of the west division, Calgary on the other hand sucks donkey nards so you’ll have to forgive me if I gloat on something that rarely happens. Last night they beat Dallas, one of the other top teams, then tonight they take out the Canuckleheads.

I hate to say this but Jarome Iginla needs to be traded*.

Earlier tonight, in what may be the greatest business card for other teams as to why they could use this power forward, Iggy netted a hat trick against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Hawks, last year’s Stanley Cup winners, were most likely in what is called “looking ahead” mode. They play the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night and Vancouver is a great team, very much like the Hawks. I think Chicago figured the slumping flames would be an easy win, not really taking them serious. Their minds were clearly in Canucks mode.

Calgary on the other hand, sucks. Last season they were terrible, and this season, as if it were possible, are on track to be worse than last year. With the salary cap looming and Calgary having a league leading 11 players with no trade clauses (wtf?) under contract… they need to do something. They are tight against the cap as it is, they can’t hire new firepower. Next July when free agency hits they’ll have fun keeping who they do have.

Now is the time.

Now is the time to trade the captain. I love Iggy, he’s the best thing to happen to the Flames since Lanny McDonald. Sorry Theoren Fluery, you were amazing but your temper and drunken tirades, not to mention you crashing your viper sort of left a rough taste in my mouth… hell of a spirit but not much of a roll model for kids, ya know?

Trading Jarome would bring several players to the organization that Calgary desperately needs to rebuild. Look at the Blackhawks as a prime example, or the Washington Capitals for that matter, or the Pittsburgh Penguins even. All these teams went through many years of suck, and then they were so bad they were able to get next years #1 draft pick, and start rebuilding.

I don’t want to see Iggy go, he’s got charisma, style, he is a role model for youth in a time it’s sorely needed. He could be the face of the NHL in so many ways, yet he’s surrounded by half assed players on the top line that aren’t good enough to break into the third line if they were playing for most other NHL teams. Good work there Sutter. (sarcasm)

Jarome Iginla is the face of all that is right and true in hockey. Almost every team would die to have him. Los Angeles has the cap space and a slew of young talent to work with trade wise. Jarome has a no trade clause, would he lift it to go to LA? Who knows… I think he would. Iggy deserves to be on a contender for the cup. Sadly that perhaps isn’t the LA Kings anytime soon, but LA has a better shot than Calgary does.

Sorry Flames Fans, but something has to be done.

A lot has changed though..

Gretzky hung up his skates and moved to Arizona. The Oil core has come and gone and now, the mighty Oil aren’t so mighty anymore. Last year the Flames played the Oilers six times. The Calgary flames won all six times. This year, the preseason anyway, we played them twice and again, trounced them both times.

Thursday night, was payback I guess. The new rookie core is in Edmonton and damn, did they come to play.

I lived in Edmonton for a short stint when I was rebuilding my life after living in the States. I was living there with this guy that I’d thought was my best friend but later I caught him stealing money right from my wallet. Just goes to show, you think you know someone… but that is another blog…

Living in enemy territory taught me some things about Edmonton. First, the girls are much easier than in Calgary. Homeless guys get laid in Edmonton, the girls are without many morals or standards apparently. I got my first stalker in Edmonton. A girl that worked at the gym I went to… I was hospitalized with a burst appendix, so I was gone for a couple weeks. She had been to my home looking for me.. which begs the question.. who the fuck are you and how did you know where I lived? (oh yeah, gym membership info… but still)

I learned the Oilers fans bleed Oil. They love their team so much more than Flames fans love the Flames. I hate to say that, but it’s true. Flames fans could learn a thing or two about the way Oiler fans look at their team. I was impressed, and now I don’t hate the Oil, I admire them. I’m still a Flames fan through and through, but you Oilers fans love your team something fierce, I like that,

The Oil won last night’s game 4-0. They shut out the Flames. Do I think they got lucky? Fuck yes. I can’t wait to play them again. Last year the Oilers were the worst team in the NHL. They lost more games than any two teams combined, they sucked that bad. So they got three or four new faces and now they’re a powerhouse? No. Not quite. Sorry Edmonton fans, you have another year of suck ahead of you.

You out played Calgary tonight, and you deserved the win. I tip my hat to Eberle, his drag move beat Kipper so bad, Kipper is still wondering if he got out of bed yesterday. He undressed him, badly. Everyone gets lucky on occasion, Kipper had a bad game, nothing more.

Did you see that fight where the new Flame Ivanson or whatever his name is, got his clock punched? A fight broke out, he was doing ok and then it went terribly wrong. The Oiler player landed two straight arm shivers and boom, lights out sweet prince. Dude was faaaaacked. I hate watching players get injured but damn, that was crazy.

To be fair, the Oiler is from Brock, Saskatchewan, the other guy is European.  Canadians know how to throw the fuck down, Europeans on the other hand… not so much, as the video shows.

For now, Trying to be Mighty Oil, you have my respect.. but let’s see how you hold up as the season progresses.

Ok, so my headline is a little early. later today, game one of the best of seven takes place between the NHL’s two top teams: the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings. While the Wings are known for winning and always finishing atop their division in the West… I’m going to predict now that the Penguins, led by captain Sydney Crosby will take the Stanley Cup this year.

Pittsburgh will take the cup in seven games, although to be fair… my gut tells me they’ll do it in six. I’ll say seven to be safe. Neither team is a slouch, both deserve to be in the finals. Evgeni Malkin will win the Conn Smythe trophy, joining Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Guy LaFleur as the only players to win both the Conn Smythe and the Hart Trophy in the same season.
