What I am reading right now

21/02/12 COMMENTS 0

I’m reading this book called John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Edgar is well known for creating Tarzan. Technically, Edgar’s son Jack wrote the John Carter book and later Edgar revised it (and took the fame). John Carter is part of the Barsoom series and yes, it’s worth reading. It’s incredible. So much that Disney figured.. let’s have some fun and they did the movie version. If you’ve ever read a book and thens aw the movie, you know books kill the movie versions for obvious reasons.

Disney’s own trailers for the movie have been good, but this last trailer I found, created by a fan, is superior in every way to the trailers Disney had created.

In short.. John Carter is a civil war soldier that is chased into a cave by apaches after he decides to leave the east and venture west. Whilst in the cave, he encounters something.. he doesn’t know what it is but it’s unlike anything he’s ever seen. There’s a flash… he’s knocked out. He wakes up, on Mars.

I know.. quite a stretch but like I said, an amazing tale.

Sandler jumped the shark

Ladies and Gentlemen, Adam, has left the building. I saw a commercial for this movie the other day. I thought maybe I was watching an SNL commercial (Saturday Night Live) and maybe Sandler was hosting.

No such luck. This shit actually exists.

WTF WTF WTF I am pretty sure someone slipped Sandler some acid, told him that he could be the white Tyler Perry.

Adam, you’re not Tyler Perry. You Wish you were, that motherfucker is rich.

I will not be seeing this movie, as it reminds me of something I’d rather not see. Ever. Hey, here’s an idea, maybe you can try for Bucky Larson’s Rotten Tomatoes score? Fairly sure you’ll tie it.

Bets of luck Opera Man.

This is the first official still from the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, currently in production for a June 14, 2013 release. Click for larger.

Henry Cavill has the role of Clark Kent. He’s a great actor so I can’t wait to see what he brings to the roll.

Kevin Costner playing Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane plays Martha Kent, it’s going to be interesting. The rest of the cast… Russell Crowe plays Jor-El (Superman’s father), Julia Ormond plays his mother. Zod is played by Michael Shannon and Faora is played by Antje Traue. Amy Adams takes the role of Lois Lane, Laurence (Morpheus) Fishburne plays Perry White, editor in chief of the Daily Planet.

Christopher Nolan is producing this (with a few others) and Zack Synder is directing.

Home Theatre

I watch a lot of movies with @Bryci. We were using a Mac Mini (4 year old version) as our media hub but it didn’t do HDMI so it was a pain in the butt. We didn’t get proper dolby sound out of it for this reason as well. We switched to a Western Digital Plus, a small hdmi friendly box that comes built in with all the codecs you would ever need for playing videos you download or create yourself.

It doesn’t have a hard drive though.. so I attached an Aluratek hard drive caddy…

Which allowed me to just drop an HD in the caddy complete with movies or shows downloaded etc.. connected via USB 2. So if your drive got full of movies, no worries, new HD and you’re back and running.

Again.. the menu system was sort of lame. It would list a movie title, but tell you nothing about it. Not length, who’s in it, nothing. I had previously used a hacked xbox running XBMC and that was awesome, but again… I wanted HDMI output, full dolby sound etc.

So just yesterday Apple released new hardware. One of the items they released, the new Mac Mini. It’s a 2.5 GHz dual core Intel Core i5 with 3mb on-chip shared L3 Cache with 8 gigs of DDR3 1333MHz ram. Graphics wise, it’s running a AMD Radeon HD 6630 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory. This little sucker will run our movie center quite nicely. :)

Yes, this is a seriously bad ass computer for home movies. :)

For movie organization, we use Plex. It’s probably the best media software I have seen, it’s free, and it’s pretty much the balls. LG tv’s now come with it installed, it’s that good. No matter what you’re running, Plex dat shit. > > > http://www.plexapp.com/

It also does weather, youtube, netflix, hulu… plugins like crazy. heh.. seriously, say hello to your new best friend if you watch movies.

Check this video if you’re not convinced…

So in short.. things are good on the home movie front :)

Batman

What are you? I’m Batman.

TheDarkKnightRises_TeaserPoster.jpg

Holy shit shingles, there’ll be a hot time in the old town, tonight.

Seriously, this movie will rock. If you haven’t heard, they’re going with the title Rocks falling in a pattern so a Batman symbol is in the sky. I myself think this title is too long, I’d have preferred Batman 10, but that’s me. I’m into numbers, yo.

also..

So yeah, I’m ready for anything.
