Neil deGrasse Tyson

30/03/12 COMMENTS 0

Amazing news for science geeks/nerds our there, Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist extraordinaire has been signed to host the reboot of Carl Sagan’s tv series Cosmos. Seth MacFarlane is producing it for Fox for 2013 release. Cosms for those out of the loop, is an award winning series by Csrl Sagan.

Neil is unbelievable. Watch this video and shit your pants. This guy isn’t boring, he’s hilarious and smarter then me. How can you not like this guy?

I’m going to go buy some more books by Neil deGrasse Tyson , he’s a freaking genius.

Neil deGrasse Tyson + Michio Kaku = Carl Sagan + Stephen Hawking. Yeah, I said Kaku is the new Hawking, what of it.

Fuck yeah science!

If you’ve got an hour to play with.. this is awesome. Richard Dawkins (he wrote the amazing book the God Delusion and many others) and Neil deGrasse Tyson – The Poetry of Science. Neil outshines Richard so bad it’s dumb… but this might because he’s a astrophysicist and not a biologist.

Biology is amazing, make no mistake… but I’ll take physics every damn time. :)

Nikon D4 Unboxing

29/03/12 COMMENTS 2

I ordered my Nikon D4 in the start of January when Nikon announced it. I sold my Nikon D700 right away to a buddy looking to get into the game, and then later Nikon delayed the release of the D4 from January to March. Yes, it was the suck. I had no camera to shoot with.

Ah well, the day has come and the D4 has arrived. unboxing time.

IMG_0019.jpg IMG_0020.jpg IMG_0021.jpg IMG_0022.jpg IMG_0023.jpg

Nikon included a 16 gig XQD card and card reader. XQD is the future for cards for cameras, as in.. you know that SD card or CF card you have now in your camera? Next year’s model of that camera, or the year after depending on your camera and how up to date they are.. will all be XQD. XQD is the fastest card possible, and they can go all the way up to 4 gig currently. The ones for sale stop at 32 gigs right now, but this is changing as well.

IMG_0026.jpg IMG_0027.jpg

Being that I am in Canada, my Nikon has two manuals, one in English, in French.

IMG_0028.jpg IMG_0031.jpg IMG_0032.jpg IMG_0034.jpg IMG_0036.jpg IMG_0038.jpg

Right out of the box, I am blown away with how light this is. All I had read in reviews was “what a tank it is” and what not. I am thinking the reviewers shoot with small compact cameras or smaller dlsrs without pro grip/extra batteries. That makes sense to me anyway.

This is lighter than a D700 with pro grip and extra battery. I weighed mine before selling it, this is 1.1 pounds lighter then D700, pro grip, extra battery in pro grip. That might not seem like much, but it adds up.

IMG_0039.jpg

Holy shit.. TWO battery charger included! Nice!

IMG_0040.jpg

Breaks down how much time you have shooting. this is cool.

IMG_0041.jpg

The battery that comes with it is said to be good for 2600 shots. I’d like a second battery as a back up me thinks.

So there you have it, I have not started to shoot with it yet, I just started to play with the menus. The LCD screen on the back, wow. The resolution looks like an iphone 4s, so clear, almost like a video game.

The two card slot set up, you can have it write in overflow meaning one card is full, it writes to second card. You can set it for back up so it writes to one, then copies to other.. or you can write in raw / jpeg so it is putting raw pix on card A, jpegs on card b.

Seriously, in the ten minutes I have played with this camera, I can tell you one thing. My game has changed.

B and I are shooting Friday or Saturday for next week’s update.. wish me luck!

Batman

28/03/12 COMMENTS 0

Remember that photo of Batman in the black Lambo being pulled over? Turn out he had a flat and local police were helping him.

Aor3BhqCEAE2Abs.jpg

Who is this guy though? Crazy rich dude with too much time on his hands?

Not quite.. he’s Lenny B Robinson and he becomes Batman, for the kids.

the-batman.jpg

Lenny helps at the cancer ward, this guy is literally a self made millionaire that is giving back to the kids. He spent $5000 on the outfit, he spent over $200,000 on the batmobile and of then he spends over $25,000 yearly on Batman swag he gives to kids at the hospitals.

the-bathman-2.jpg

This guy is being the change and then some.

Read more about this here – http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/rosenwald-md/post/who-is-the-route-29-batman-this-guy/2012/03/28/gIQA8nPjgS_blog.html

Seriously, when (if) I grow up, I want to be Batman.

Atomos Ninja Unboxing

28/03/12 COMMENTS 0

Today my Ninja arrived. :) The Atomos Ninja to be more specific. All of this was shot with the iPhone 4s so don’t hate too much.. heh

IMG_1600.JPG IMG_1621.JPGIMG_1622.JPG IMG_1623.JPG

I like how they packed things, all nice and safe. Great for trips. Moving around the case…

(Row 1 – L to R) Ninja, cord for ninja, two drive caddies, two SSD drive cases (not sure why they have these, but ok)

(Row 2 – L to R) Two batteries, battery charger, desk top caddy for drives.

IMG_1625.JPG

The Ninja connects via hdmi to the Nikon D4 to allow the video recording from the D4 to bypass compression entirely, recording instead to the Ninja. 220 megs uncompressed per second which translates into quality second to none. Studio camera record at this level.

IMG_1627.JPG IMG_1626.JPG

The drive caddy sits on my desk, so I can plug in one of two caddies from the Ninja for easy plug/play moving of videos from the Ninja to Final Cut Pro X.

IMG_1628.jpg

It came with two batteries for the Ninja and the great thing about the power… it pulls power from one of the batteries, when the power is done it flips to battery #2, allowing you to unplug battery 1 and charge it while still recording, or replace it with back up batteries… in short, you can record endlessly. Limited only by your hard drives really.

I grabbed two 500 gig drives for this, so I should be set.

IMG_1582.JPG

(blogged about this earlier)

Now the best part of today wasn’t the arrival of the Ninja… no, it was news that something else is finally on the final leg of it’s trip from Japan to me.

IMG_1597.JPG

I didn’t snap this.. this pic was sent to me. I had my D4 sent to me from another city. The place I live wasn’t getting any, so instead I had it going to the largest camera dealership in Western Canada. He picked it up for me, shipped it out. It gets here Thursday (tomorrow).

The Nikon D4 is inbound and now, I have all the pieces of the puzzle. Well, tomorrow I will have.. heh

I went for a nice walk today with Bryci. Well, she was actually in the car making a video for her update on Thursday… holy shit btw.

Check the nice view.. aside from the tree recovering from being burnt that is.

We live along side this lake, yes, life is good. :)

IMG_1614.JPG

It had just finished raining… the air was amazing.

IMG_1603.JPG

Also, I saw a Porsche 911 turbo in the McDonalds drive thru. That alone made me smile.

IMG_1620.JPG

Alright kids, I have to get back to video encoding.. prepare to smile when you see the next video going into Bryci’s site.

god.damn.son.of.a.bitch she keeps out doing herself.

Auto Correct

27/03/12 COMMENTS 0

Wives are tricky creatures I have been told. If you have an iPhone you can create short cuts so when the person types in certain words, the phone replaces those words with phrases, words, sayings etc

Example, you typing FML might have the phone replace that text with Fuck My Life.

Make sense?

So, this blog comes from a “wife” that took her “husband’s” phone and decided to have some fun with him.

First, she creates shortcuts with words…

Once the shortcuts were in place, she starts to screw with Joey, her “husband”

(air quotes used because this is most likely fake, but meh, whatever)

a little while later…
