I have been a subscriber to Easynews for well over 4 years. That is, until recently. They lost me as a customer, so I thought I’d detail why.

I have been so busy with work and traveling for work, that I have not had time to use Easynews. For months, i was not in the site.. and then I log in the other day and I was shocked to learn some things.

For those unaware of how Easynews works, it’s a newsgroup reading service for lack of term, it collects things from usenet and puts it in an easy to navigate website. Lame explanation, but that’s more or less what it is.

When you log in as a member, it says your username and then says where you have logged in from. Sort of a security feature. Mine always said from my cable company’s name.. until that is, recently when I logged in.

I saw that I have been logging in all over the world, several countries and states. Problem is, none of those were me. I’ve never used Easynews from anywhere other then home.

When you are a member, every month your gigs rolls over. When you get a membership, you’re allowed X amount of download. If you don’t download the amount, it rolls over to the next month. I had over 2 tb of saved gigs for download usage, not that I’d ever use that much but still.

I log in and it tells me I have next to no gigs left.

Apparently the haxors used most of my gigs for downloading who knows what.

I was surprised because Easynews is major, they’ve been around forever. I expected they’d know what the fuck web security was. On my servers with Bella, if we get someone logging in from multiple areas, boom, their shit is suspended not now but right now. Instant.

Yet with Easynews, one of the web’s largest services.. they allow my account to get raped by several different countries. My pass was alpha numeric, using capital and lower case. How the fuck is that hacked again? No, my email wasn’t hacked and no, my computer wasn’t hacked.

What was hacked? my Easynews account. Fuck everything about that.

So yes, I don’t feel safe anymore with this site, and I’m moving the fuck on.

If you’re a current Easynews customer, my advice is to watch your account, close.
